Over the last week, we’ve received a number of queries regarding orientation, so we thought we’d try to help clarify things a little here..
The semester of AY16/17 starts on 1st Aug, with that week (1 Aug to 5 Aug) being orientation week. This is the week where orientation activities and administrative processes are carried out, before Week 1 begins on 8 Aug. This is also not to be confused with Science Orientation Week (SOW), which is an orientation camp that actually occurs the week before orientation week.
Aside from SOW, there is also SCAMP, both of which are organised by the Science club, which is open to all Science students. There are also major-specific camps, for the specific majors to get to know people actually in the major. This include our very own Freshmen Orientation Camp, scheduled to take place between 1 Aug and 3 Aug (orientation week!). Orientation camps are not compulsory, although it is useful for getting to know some people before school begins, especially major-specific camps.
Our camp also has a pre-camp briefing scheduled for the week before orientation week, when administrative procedures would have already started. During this week (25 Jul to 29 Jul), new students are expected to declare their major in Round 0 (Date TBC, check the CORS portal) as well as check their preallocated modules and bid for other modules in Round 1C. Our pre-camp briefing is scheduled to fall on the first day of Round 1C, so that we can have seniors on hand to help you, the Chemistry majors, with the bidding processes and to liaise with the office regarding any discrepancies in module allocation.
Hope this helps clarify some doubts you may have; do write to us if you have further major-specific queries as well!
And remember our camp is still open for sign-ups at http://tinyurl.com/CSS2016FOCamp We’ll contact you with more details closer to the date!
